In Loving Memory of
Raymond L. Camarena
October 29, 1934 - March 13, 2026
Raymond L. Camarena, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and respected community leader, was born on October 29, 1934, in Porterville, California. His life was marked by strength, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to both his family and his community.
Raymond's life was rooted in a legacy of perseverance. His father and grandfather immigrated to the United States from Guanajuato, Mexico, during the time of the Mexican Revolution, when life was difficult and food was scarce. The family eventually settled in Porterville, where his father, Ramon Camarena-known to family as "Papa Mon"-worked in the citrus industry before becoming a labor contractor, at times overseeing as many as 300 men. He also founded one of the strongest Hispanic civic organizations in Porterville, Commission Honorifica Mexicana Americana. A legacy Raymond would later carry forward as he faithfully served as President for a decade.
His father married Belen Lopez, a Porterville native who was raised among the mines above the town. She often shared stories of attending a one-room schoolhouse and traveling by horse-drawn wagon. Together, they raised a strong family of eight children: Carmen, Lawrence, Raymond, Jesse, Lupe, John, Mike, and Nancy.
Raymond was raised in Porterville, where he attended local schools and graduated from Porterville High School. As a young man, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marines. Through discipline and dedication, he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After completing his service, he returned home to Porterville to work alongside his father, helping oversee their crews.
During this time, Raymond met the love of his life, Linda Moreno. They were married and built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. Together, they raised their beloved children-his beloved son, Ramon Ismael, and his pride and joy his daughter, Olga Marie.
Raymond dedicated 30 years of his life to the grocery business, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. He later built a second career in real estate, helping many families achieve the dream of homeownership-something he took great pride in.
A man of deep love and devotion, Raymond often described his wife Linda as the greatest person he had ever met. Their 66 years of marriage stood as a testament to commitment, respect, and enduring love.
Raymond and Linda were also deeply committed to their community. They gave many years of service to many civic organizations and were honored as Grand Marshals of the annual Cinco de Mayo parade in Porterville-an acknowledgment of their lasting impact and leadership.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Linda Camarena; his daughter and son-in-law, Olga & Nestor Lambarena; his sister, Nancy Bohl; his cherished grandchildren, Ramon & Sylvia Camarena, Erica & Ryan Leasure, Angela & Berto Gomez, Linda & Marco Serrato, Yvette & Jair Rodriguez, and Marely Isabel-Emigdio; and 15 cherished great grandchildren.
Raymond Camarena leaves behind a legacy of strength, leadership, and love. He was a man who showed up for his family, led with integrity, and made a lasting difference in the lives of many. His legacy will continue to live on through the generations he helped shape and the community he helped build.
