Mary Christensen

December 20, 1924 — June 6, 2023

Mary Christensen passed peacefully on June 6, 2023 at Sierra View Medical Center at the age of 98. She lived a long, fulfilling life full of love for her family, including her beloved husband of 67 years, LaVaun ("Chris") Christensen. As a young woman she taught ballet and loved ballroom dancing. She was a life-long voracious reader and she could beat almost anyone in Scrabble.

Mary was born in 1924, the youngest of 5 children, to parents Ross and Mabel Johnston in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Her family immigrated to California when she was 3 years old. In 1972, Mary and Chris moved to the Springville area. They spent much of their time in Doyle Springs, and they considered the community members part of their extended family.

Chris and Mary did everything together including running a construction business. They were proud parents of two daughters, Sheila and Robin. Mary was a wonderful homemaker, accomplished seamstress, and excellent cook who was famous for her pies. She loved spending time with her four granddaughters and their husbands, Tina (George), Sara, Laurel (Gabor), and Amy, as well as her two great-granddaughters, Chloe and Piper.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband LaVaun and her siblings Ross, Dick, Sheila, and Eleanor. The family will be planning a private memorial service to honor both Mary and LaVaun.

Private Services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Myers Funeral Service and Crematory, 248 North E Street, Porterville, California 93257. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.myersfuneral.com
