Juanita May Craig

August 20, 1937 — October 19, 2025

Juanita May Craig was born on August 20, 1937, in Porterville, California, and passed away on October 19, 2025, at the age of 88. She was the daughter of Hubert and Eula May Pittenger. She grew up in Porterville and attended Belleview Elementary, Bartlett Junior High, and graduated from Porterville High School in 1955.

In 1954, Juanita married her high school sweetheart, Hubert Craig. Hubert entered the Army and was stationed in Germany, where Juanita joined him for one year.

Juanita worked for ten years at Porterville High School and helped run the family-owned grocery store, Craig's Stop-n-Shop Market, for twenty years. She owned and operated Calico Junction Gift Shop and also enjoyed helping her daughter Pam with her business, Country Pleasures, for many years.

Juanita was a woman of great faith and very devoted to the Church she attended since birth (Porterville First Baptist). She held many positions and taught Sunday School for children and youth since she was a teenager. Her greatest passion was working with high school youth, and she continued to pray for each student after they graduated. She also loved decorating the church and was instrumental in creating the First Baptist Church Historical Room.

After retirement, Hubert and Juanita spent much of their time at Pismo Beach and traveling throughout the United States, visiting all 50 states. One of Juanita's passions during their travels was visiting lighthouses and shopping. They also traveled to many other countries and enjoyed several cruises together.

Juanita, affectionately known as Grammy, prayed daily for her family members by name. She will be lovingly missed by her brother, Raymond Pittenger of Lindsay; her three children, Pamela Hughes (David Johnson) of Porterville, Roger Craig (Nancy VanRuiten) of Arroyo Grande, California, and Janna Hert (Steve Hert) of Visalia, California.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Scott of Fresno, Jarred and Chad Hughes of Porterville, Chalaunt Craig of Grover Beach, Kasie Craig and Skylar Nettleton of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Brigette Barnes and Dillon Craig of Visalia; as well as seventeen great-grandchildren.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Craig; her father, Hubert Pittenger; her mother, May Pittenger Shelton; her brother, Thomas Edwards; and her sister, Ruth Sehlin Rush.
