Joy Elaine Boydstun (Crabtree), age 75, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, in Visalia, California. Born on September 8, 1950, in Porterville, California, Joy lived a life filled with creativity, community involvement, and deep devotion to her family and friends.
Joy's early years were spent in Porterville, where she attended Olive Street Elementary School and Bartlett Middle School. She graduated from Porterville High School with the class of 1968 and later pursued her passion for beauty and style by attending beauty school. Her love for crafting and creativity led her to manage Happy Hobbies in 1970---a beloved local business she owned and managed with her mother for over three decades until 2001. Through Happy Hobbies, Joy shared her artistic talents with the community, inspiring countless individuals with her inventive spirit and warm heart.
Throughout her life, Joy was deeply involved in a wide range of clubs and organizations that reflected her vibrant personality and generous nature. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Womens Club, Garden Club, Daughters of the Nile, Jobs Daughters, Girl Scouts, Bunco, Red Hats, and Rolling Relics. Her leadership shone brightly as she held numerous offices within these groups often rising to the highest positions including serving multiple terms as Worthy Matron. Joy was also a dedicated member of the Porterville High School Class of 1968 committee, where she helped plan every class reunion, cherishing the opportunity to reconnect classmates and celebrate lifelong friends. As a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader and a council member for Jobs Daughters, Joy mentored young girls with enthusiasm and care.
Joy's crafty nature was more than a hobby--it was a way of life. Whether through sewing, baking, or decorating for events big or small, she poured love into everything she created. Her home was often filled with handmade treasures that brought joy to those around her. She had a special gift for making people feel welcomed and cherished through her thoughtful gestures and creative flair.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Dan Boydstun; her brother Loyd Crabtree (Sherry); her daughter Lisa Stuart and son-in-law Brandon Stuart; grandchildren Justin Stuart (Macie), Jacob Stuart (Codi), Ashlyn Stuart, Jason Stuart. Great grandchildren Ryatt, Harlyn, Stone, Rex Stuart; as well as several nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
Joy was preceded in death by her loving parents, Verna Crabtree and Robert "Bob" Crabtree.
Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched---with every handmade crafts or lovingly prepared meal remembered fondly by those fortunate enough to know her. Above all else, Joy wished to be remembered for her crafty spirit---a spirit that brought warmth into every room she entered. She also found great joy in her lifelong love of Mickey Mouse; everything from her clothing to her home reflected the cheerful character that brought her so much happiness.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire creativity, kindness, and joy in all who carry forward the light she so generously shared.
