Janice Yvonne Poe, 75 died peacefully at home on June 16, 2026 in the company of her sister, son and daughter. Janice spent most of her life in Porterville, with the exception of her time in Goshen as a young child while her father was a farmer there, and when she lived in Texas while her husband served in the Army during the Vietnam War. She spent 27 years delivering mail for the United States Postal Service and also served as treasurer for the local branch of the National Association of Letter Carriers. After retirement she continued her union involvement and frequented union meetings and parties. Janice was a true believer in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Christianity influenced all aspects of her life. She taught Sunday school for 27 years at First Southern Baptist Church, specifically teaching 4 year olds so she could bring young people to the Lord. She read her Bible EVERY single day. When diagnosed with cancer, she told others that "God had her days numbered from the beginning," and she was unafraid.
Janice loved sewing and was a member of the Porterville quilt club. She loved working in the yard, cooking, and going on trips with her husband of 56 years, James, who preceded her in death. Through her family adventures, she was able to see 47 states. She loved planning and hosting parties, attending community festivities, fellowshipping at Saints Alive and Primetime Ladies, making new friends and going out to eat with her many longtime friends. Janice is survived by her sister Linda Pettit; son Curtis Poe and his wife Lori; daughter Angela Dodd and her husband Monte; as well as three grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Janice was very thoughtful and tried to make each of her grandchildren feel special. It was not unusual to attend a tea party; BBQ, pool party, or be invited out on the boat at a lake she'd always wanted to see. Janice attended recitals, graduations, birthday parties and everything in between. She loved celebrating holidays and life achievements together and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.
