Dorothy Marie Martin

Nov 19, 1942 — Jul 7, 2026

Dorothy "Dotty" Martin was born on November 19, 1942, and went peacefully to heaven on July 7, 2026, at the age of 83.

Dotty was born to Jerry and Dorothy Ann Hildebrand and was raised in Porterville, California, where her family had deep roots in the community. From her parents, she inherited a strong faith, a devotion to family, and the resilience to adapt to life's many changes.

Dotty met the love of her life, Richard James Martin, in San Francisco. After graduating from college, she returned to Porterville, and Richard took a leap of faith and followed her there. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared 46 years of marriage before Richard's passing in 2011.

Their marriage was blessed with four children: Christl Siller, Deborah Davidson, Cathy Klaus-Martin, and David Martin. Dotty was also a loving and devoted grandmother to Paige Siller, Drew Davidson, Dominic Davidson, Donovan Davidson, Colin Martin, and Taylor Martin. Her children and grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life, and she took tremendous pride in each of them.

Dotty devoted more than 20 years to working as a special education teacher at Belleview Elementary School in Porterville. She truly loved her work and found great purpose in educating, encouraging, and caring for her students. Her chosen profession reflected the patience, compassion, understanding, and strength that defined her character.

Dotty lived by the belief that it was always best to "forgive and forget." She had the biggest heart, an everlasting smile, and a positive outlook on life. She did not hold on to anger or resentment, but instead chose compassion, understanding, and love. This simple but powerful outlook shaped the way she treated others and remains an important part of the example she leaves behind.

Later in life, Dotty embraced a new adventure and moved to Cambria, California, to be closer to her family. There, she enjoyed the beauty and peacefulness of the Central Coast.

Dotty believed deeply in God and learned, as her mother had before her, to lean upon the Lord during both life's blessings and its trials. She is now returning home to Porterville, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Richard, and near her parents and other family members who passed before her. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with them in heaven.

Our beloved mother and grandmother will be deeply missed, but her love, guidance, and memory will remain with us forever.

A Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Anne's Church in Porterville, California on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 9:00 AM. Interment to follow at Vandalia Cemetery in Porterville, California.
