Carolynn S. Childers

December 13, 1942 — February 25, 2026

Carolynn Sue Childers, age 83, passed away on February 25, 2026, at Sierra View Medical Center with family by her side. Carolynn was born December 13, 1942 in Visalia, California. She was the youngest of four siblings born to Aggie and James Palmer. She attended Porterville High and College of the Sequoias. Carolynn had three children with her first husband, Raymond Chandler.

In 1969 Carolynn married Woody Childers Sr and their combined Brady Bunch created a family of 9. Carolynn and Woody were a perfect balance: Woody a dignified man of few words, Carolyn the outgoing risk taker who happily filled in what Woody left unsaid--and then some. Woody kept a meticulous lawn: Carolynn planted flowers, some of them plastic, on its border. They spent 56 beautiful years together with lots of adventures and happy memories before Woody passed away in July 2025.

On top of being a devoted wife and mother, Carolynn made a career in the local citrus industry for 34 years, starting out as a secretarial assistant, moving up to the International Sales desk for Sunkist. She even had a brief stint as the manager of a packing house. She came home each night with the scent of citrus on her winter coat to make dinner for the family. As a working mom, sometimes the dinner came partly from boxes but every evening the family sat together for their family dinner. There was always lots of love and laughter but one strict rule--there was to be no singing at the dinner table. (Inside joke)

After their retirement, Carolynn and Woody enjoyed exploring the US in their 5th wheel trailer and traveled full-time for 8 years, spending their winters in the warm desert near Parker, where they made many new friends and flourished in their golden years.

Once they stopped traveling around the US, they parked their 5th wheel at Darla and Ken Tunnell's, where they fed, tamed and named a herd of feral cats and continued with their gardening.

Carolynn and Woody enjoyed their final years in "the penthouse" at Sierra Hills retirement community where they formed new friendships with staff and residents alike. Even in her final days Carolynn had plenty of laughs and made new friends among the doctors and nurses at Sierra View Medical Center. Carolynn was a fun loving prankster and party planner who collected friends wherever she went.

She was known to many as "Lucy" for her zany sensibility and slight physical resemblance to Lucille Ball. She was "Grandma CC" to all the grandkids and other children who loved her.

Carolynn was easy to like and hard to ignore. She'll be missed by all who knew her.

Carolynn is survived by Woody Childers Jr (Shelly), Deborah Chandler (Mark), Kari Oxford (Daniel), Darla Tunnell (Ken), Rick Childers (Lori), Jeff Chandler, and Bruce Childers (Dana). She leaves the family legacy of 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life and Reception will take place on Sunday May 31, 2026, 1:00 pm at the Tunnell residence 15410 Ave 344, Visalia CA 93292
