Betty Jo Webb

Dec 28, 1936 — Oct 18, 2026

Betty Jo Webb (Sparks) peacefully left this world on October 18, 2026, she was 89 years old. Betty was born on December 28, 1936 in Marlow, Oklahoma, to parents Thomas Charles & Earline Sparks. She was one of six children and only six months old when the family made the move to Pixley, California during the Great Dust Bowl Migration.

Charlie went to work for Hoke Packing and the family lived in a big old house on the ranch, the kids always referred to it as the Hoke Ranch. Betty and her siblings always spoke fondly about growing up on that ranch in Pixley where their young lives were shaped. Betty graduated from Delano High School where she kept up the family tradition started by elder sister Charline and was Head Cheerleader, younger sister Maribeth would also follow being Head Cheerleader. It was while attending Delano High that Betty would meet the love of her life Douglas Webb. Doug & Betty married in 1957 and began working with Doug's dad Leonard in the family construction company that would become Webb & Son. In those early years Webb & Son was run from a desk in the dining room of their early home. Daughters Karen, born in 1960 and Melissa, born in 1964 completed the family.

Betty was great at not only running a construction company and raising her daughters, but she was the consummate hostess. She threw lavish parties for friends and family. Packing people into the small old house before her and Doug built what would become the family home at the corner of Plano & Grand. So, adept at those parties she was known to re-wallpaper a bathroom the night before the party. Enlisting help from Joe & Lucille Faure, sister Maribeth & Cousin Rose, mind you the bathroom was maybe 8'x8', not sure how they all fit. There was no end to what Betty would do to make her family and friends feel welcome in her home. Doug & Betty's home was the site of family Thanksgiving, Christmas Dinners, Easter Egg Hunts, Sunday Lunch, Birthday's and just the random swim party or Bar-b-que.

Betty made it look easy, for over 50 years alongside husband Doug she helped steer the helm of Webb & Son before handing that job off to daughter Karen. She was the first Woman Moderator of the First Congregational Church in Porterville, a Sunday School Teacher, President of the PTA, Community Leader for Burton 4-H Club, Porterville College Foundation Board Member, SVDH Foundation Board Member, 2001 Porterville's Woman of the Year. An extremely hard act to follow.

Betty is survived by Daughters, Karen Webb, Melissa Webb Roggenstein (Chris), Grandsons Layton Johns (Lauren), Brett Johns (Marisa), Rees Roggenstein, Garrett Roggenstein and great grandchildren, Jasper Johns, Annie Rose Johns, Jagger Johns & Jensen Johns. Sisters Linda Wiggs and Gloria Sangers, numerous much loved, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Just Like Home Caregivers, Bristol Hospice and the following women who touched her life so beautifully in her last years, Angie Castillo, Otilia Mercado, Kathy Duran, Jennifer Potter & Jaelynn Green.
