Stephen Todd Pixler

January 6, 1948 — July 29, 2022

There are some people you wish would live forever. Stephen “Todd” Pixler – a wonderful father, husband, brother, and friend whose “love language” was undoubtedly “Acts of Service” – died peacefully in his home on July 28, 2022. After a clean bill of health in Dec. 2021, Todd succumbed only to that most aggressive of foes: stage 4 cancer. His diagnosis was unexpected, and his passing came too soon.
Todd was born to Roy and Alyce Pixler in Webster City, Iowa on Jan. 6, 1948. Shortly after, with not much more than fond memories and, by that time, joined by younger brother Mark, the family moved from Eagle Grove, IA to California (first, Visalia; then, Porterville). His father a golf pro and his mother a real estate agent, Todd inherited a love for both sports and socializing. In 1966, during his senior year at Porterville High School, he excited fans in many races and relays and, 56 years later, still holds the 400 meter record of 48.12 seconds. Todd loved to share all of his beloved interests (including obscure sports facts and accomplishments) with his family, including his wife and daughters, whether they wanted him to (or understood) or not.
Socially conscious, fair, and highly principled, Todd served in the Vietnam War before learning and excelling in multiple trades, each of which allowed him to help those around him in some way. He pushed and continually inspired those he loved to excel, often letting his fiery passion and opinions be known. Even at 74, he was unable to sit still: so long as something needed to be done or someone needed help, he would keep working to fill that need. With a profound joy of life in all its forms, Todd’s love for the good times carried through the bad ones – often leading to many a laugh at memories made.
Those who knew Todd knew how hard it was to tell him what to do – his will and opinions were strong – but he listened on his last day, in his last hours, to his beloved family when they broken-heartedly assured him that it was “ok” for him to go. Although he was fading, he made the decision to leave us only because of the assurance that we’ll be ok, and only because it was his choice. Todd is survived by his wife, Tina; daughters, Erin (with husband Rick) Bailey and Lauren (Pixler); brother, Mark; grandchildren, Mason (with wife, Natalie) and Reghan Bailey; great-granddaughter, Marra Bailey; and many, many cousins and friends. If anyone is so inclined, contributions may be made to the PHS Alumni Association for scholarships.
