Robert Williamson Bergen

Robert Williamson Bergen passed away at his home on November 28, 2021 at the age of 74. He was born in Lindsay on April 7, 1947 to John and Iva Bergen and grew up on the family orange and olive ranch near Strathmore.
Robert attended schools in Strathmore graduating from Strathmore High in 1965. While in high school he was active in FFA. He then attended Porterville College and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo graduating in 1970 with a degree in ornamental horticulture.
After graduating Robert returned to Strathmore and purchased the groves from his parents. He continued in farming until shortly before his death. He purchased several other orchards and was active on many boards related to agriculture.
Robert loved the mountains, often taking backpacking trips and staying in his cabin in Camp Nelson as well as frequent trips to the coast. He also enjoyed traveling, taking several trips to Europe and the east coast.
For the past several years Robert suffered from Parkinson’s Disease.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Connie Bergen of Porterville; Nephew, Seth Bergen and his wife Mellisa and their two sons, Emmett and Everett, of Porterville; and by his niece, Jill and her husband Bradley Griffiths of Whittier California.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Home of Peace Cemetery in Porterville.
