George Warren Burleson

George Warren Burleson passed away peacefully at home from complications due to Alzheimer’s. He was 87. George was born in Lamesa, Texas on October 3, 1934. His family moved to Southern, California, when he was 6. He left school when he was 17 and joined the Navy, serving two tours during the Korean Conflict aboard the U.S.S. Princeton and U.S.S. Kittyhawk. He finished his military career in the Army as a Chief Warrant officer #2 and retired with 27 years of service.
He and his brother Dee had a hangar at the Porterville Airport and enjoyed many BBQ’s and air shows. He delighted in taking his kids and grandkids flying. He also enjoyed bowling with his family, very competitive, and a lot of fun. Golf was another hobby George enjoyed, especially when he got not only one but two holes in one, the first at Three Rivers Club and the other at River Island Country Club. He and his wife Carol also did a lot of traveling.
George was most proud to have had not only one, but three ancestors who fought in the American Revolution; he was member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol Burleson; son, Barry Burleson and his wife Gwen of Bolin, S.D.; daughter, Laura Harris and her husband Jerry, of Tehachapi, CA; son, Lee Burleson and his wife Stacey of Spirit Lake, ID; daughter, Sandra Murguia and her husband, Greg of Terra Bella, CA. George is preceded in death by his daughter, Beanna Burleson and his son, Thomas Burleson. George is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held at United Presbyterian Church of Terra Bella on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A Service will be held at United Presbyterian Church of Terra Bella on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 10:30 AM. Following the service, a Luncheon will be held at United Presbyterian Church of Terra Bella. Interment to be held at Vandalia Cemetery.
