1944

Frank and Eunice Myers established the Myers Chapel in 1944, with nineteen years experience in the funeral industry. They were dedicated to the belief that ALL people, regardless of social, ethnic or economic circumstances, were to be treated with the same dignity and compassion as a member of their own family. It is to this belief that three generations of the Myers family and chapel staff have been committed, themselves. Betty and Alson Wise, the daughter and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Myers, joined the Myers Funeral Service in 1948. Alson had been a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. This enabled Myers Funeral Service to be one of the first funeral homes to operate its own air removal services.

1970

Alson “Mike” Wise Jr. and Nancy Wise Hutton, the children of Alson and Betty Wise, began working at Myers Chapel at an early age and continued into adulthood. Both learned about all aspects of the funeral business. During the late 1970s, Ted Goode, a longtime employee, was promoted to the position of manager. He held that position until his death in 1993. Mrs. Myers passed away in 1980. After the deaths of Alson Wise Sr. in 1981 and Betty Wise in 1982, Myers Funeral Service was passed to their children, Alson “Mike” Wise Jr. and Nancy Wise Hutton, who oversee the continuation of the family tradition. When the crematory was added in 1984, it was the only crematory in operation and is now the longest operating crematory in the Porterville area.

1995

Myers began a new “tradition” in December 1995 known as the Myers Christmas Memorial Tree. This tradition began with the idea of Myers “giving back to the community.” Myers Funeral Service also gives support to the community through contributions to local service clubs and organizations. The members of the Myers family have always been leaders in the funeral industry — from beginning one of the first funeral homes to transport remains by commercial air carriers in the mid-1940s to operating their own airplane, to managing their own crematory, to developing equitable pricing. Their dedication, and that of the chapel staff, to the principles of Frank and Eunice Myers is responsible for the reputation of the Myers chapel. Service to others as if they were family members, service to the community, and help, comfort, and dignity to those we serve, to the best of our ability, is the standard others strive to achieve. This has always been a Myers’ family tradition.

Myers Funeral Service was established years ago, and serving families has always been our focus. We take pride in being able to guide people through some of their most difficult days. We take pride in maintaining a setting that allows people to find solace. Celebrating life is our mission. That’s never changed. And with pride, it never will.
